Qatar has earned the right to host the 2027 Basketball World Cup, according to the International Federation of the Game, which met in the Philippine city of Manila on Friday.
The 2027 World Basketball Cup will be held in Qatar
According to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the State of Qatar has been awarded the privilege of hosting the 2027 Basketball World Cup.
FIBA officially announced this morning, Friday, that Qatar had been awarded the tournament's organization, making history as the first Arab nation to do so, and that 32 teams will be taking part. Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which the State of Qatar organized in the year earlier.
According to a FIBA release, "The Qatar Basketball Association has secured the rights to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, provided that all contests in the illustrious competition will take place in the city of Doha."
Qatar, one of the world's most linked cities
In a statement, the International Basketball Association (FIBA) Central Board stated that it was "impressed by the bid in reaching their decision, particularly the elements related to the compact geographical nature, the unique freedom in scheduling the tournament venue to better serve the fans, and the focus on sustainability."
The capital of Qatar, Doha, is one of the best-connected cities in the world, the statement concluded. It offers direct flights from the majority of prospective participating nations, and its recently updated public transit system connects all locations while offering all guests first-class service.
The Federation emphasized that having the entire tournament in one place would benefit the spectators and help make the tournament "carbon neutral" due to the stadium's construction. On the other side, the federation said that Germany will host the 2026 edition of the FIBA World Cup for Women, which it previously organized in 1998.
The "Arena Berlin" and Max Schmeling Hall will serve as the sites for the 2026 FIBA World Cup for Women, which will be hosted in Berlin.
The most significant achievement in the Qatar Basketball Association's history
The President of the Qatar Basketball Association and CEO of the hosting committee, Mohammed Saad Al-Mughisib, was quoted by the "Al-Kass" channels network as saying, "I congratulate Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the country, and Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, for this achievement, as we celebrate this today."
The most significant accomplishment in the history of the Qatar Basketball Association and basketball in Qatar. We have seen significant growth in sports over the past several decades in the State of Qatar and in the surrounding area, and we can promise everyone that this World Cup will encourage new generations to take up the sport.
The selection of Qatar as the host nation represents a continuation of the State of Qatar's string of successes in all sectors, according to Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and head of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 bid committee. He was also proud of himself for making the decision.
According to the chairman of the hosting file committee, Qatar is qualified to host a very exceptional edition because of its cutting-edge infrastructure, sizeable sports venues, sophisticated transportation system, and rich cultural history.
